One of the questions I get asked most often is, ‘how do I get started on a diet that will actually work for me?’
To get started, see results and keep them… begin with these 3 easy steps.
Step 1 – WRITE it down
Keep a food JOURNAL and note what your current eating habits and choices are. What you ate, time and how you felt before and after each meal.
It’s important to know where you are so you know where you want to go.
Instead of judging and being hard on yourself—BE LOVING. You’re moving forward and you’ll want this recorded! This will help you determine simple swaps as you shift into healthier eating habits.
In a recent study by the Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Research, participants who kept food journals lost almost double the weight of their nonjournaling counterparts.
Step 2 – GET RID of the temptations in your kitchen
High-sugar foods like cookies and pasta increase your levels of Ghrelin, a hormone that stimulates appetite and increases cravings.
The saturated fats in foods like cheese and processed foods impair your brain’s normal ability to regulate appetite and cravings, so you don’t realize you’re full until you’re over stuffed
*Why you don’t want your ‘trigger’ foods in the house… Proximity to food influences how much of it you eat, says James Painter, R.D., a professor at Eastern Illinois University who studies behavioral eating.
Step 3 – RESTOCK : Organize and de-clutter your kitchen
Restock the freezer with items like berries, veggies, lean protein, home-made soups, and sauces.
Restock the pantry with longer lasting shelf items like canned tuna, beans, soups, nuts, cacao nibs, coconut and olive oils, oatmeal, wild and brown rice.
This will make it a breeze to plan, prep and prepare your meals each week.
Create Intentions/goals/motivation… What is your “WHY”? (ie. Health improvement, weight loss, deadline for event, reason that means something for you).
Be sure to review your intentions and goals daily, you’ll find it will soon become you. Become your new habit!
Let me know what your “why” is? What’s driving you to take those first steps toward a healthier you?
